The electric arc furnace has been established in steel production for over 120 years. It has often been claimed that the technology has reached its final stage of development and that no significant further advancements can to be expected. However, this statement has consistently proven false.
This presentation attempts to provide an outlook on future developments in the field of electric arc furnaces in the coming decades. In addition to furnace size, particularly tapping weight and rated power, emerging innovations will be discussed. The aim is to consider all aspects of electric arc furnace technology.
